Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2: Display and Design

Foldables means a phone that fold both inwards like Galaxy  Folds and outwards like Huawei Mate Xs. But no one denies that screen on inward-folding is more protected.

It offers 7.6-inch display along with a 120Hz refresh rate on the main display. Higher refresh rate improves overall performance and allows you to enjoy smooth scrolling as compared to Galaxy Fold which offered refresh rate of 60Hz only.

Talking about the cover display, it does not offer 120Hz refresh rate but you can expect higher performance compared to the first Fold featured. It includes 6.2 inches OLED screen which is enough to perform pretty much any task. You can resume the task on your main display when you unfold your device.

Note: Typing can feel a bit cramped due to the narrower aspect ratio as compared to most of the phones.

Talking about the design, it has offered a better impression as compared to Galaxy Fold. It has a larger exterior display. The cover display has grown from 4.6 inches to 6.2 inches. The main display also has increased from 7.3 inches to 7.6 inches and the ugly notch has been removed from it and is replaced by small cutout for a selfie camera.

Samsung has done several improvements for increasing its usability and durability. Galaxy Z Fold 2 includes new Ultra-Thin display for providing better touchscreen feel and Hideaway hinge that uses sweeper technology for preventing dust and dirt from entering the phone.

Galaxy Z Fold 2's hinge technology uses CAM mechanism for allowing users to position screen in multiple positions. We can still notice a gap between two sides of the phones when closed but is narrower than the previous model.

It comes in two colours which is Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze but you can add some flair in the form of four hinge colour option by ordering through Samsung.com like Metallic Gold, Metallic Silver, Metallic Red and Metallic Blue.

It measures 6.2 x 5x 0.27inches when opened and 6.2 x 2.6 x 0.66 inches when closed. This configuration is slightly shorter but wider than the previous model.

It weighs 9.9 ounces which is slightly heavier and can cause a bit of strain if used for several hours. The other con is that it is not water-resistant.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2: Cameras

It's a bit strange as $2,000 Galaxy Z Fold is step down in terms of cameras than $1,3000 Galaxy Note 20. There is no availability of 108MP main sensor, 50x Space Zomm or 5x optical zoom.

Galaxy Z Fold features 12 MP main wide-angle camera, 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera along with a 123-degree field of view and 12MP telephoto lens along with 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.

Dual Preview allows you to see how you will look taking shoots using the front display. This means you will be able to take the higher quality of selfies using the rear lens.

All you have to do is to open the camera on the cover display and press button on the top right corner. Now, you will be invited to unfold the device. The Flex mode allows you to preview your recent pictures on the bottom half of the screen while allowing you to maintain the live preview on the top half of the screen.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2: Multitasking and Flex mode

The important update regarding Samsung Galaxy Z Fold is the multi-tasking. It allows you to open three apps at the same time using improved Multi-Active Window feature.

This is probably the coolest feature and you can easily re-arrange the layout with tap or drag an app from one window to another.

You can drag and drop content such as a photo from one app to another however it doesn't work for Google Photos app.

Flex mode provides foldable phones with lots of versatility. It's because you can have content on one display and settings and controls on the other providing maximum productivity. It allows you to use your phone in laptop-like position. According to Samsung, Flex mode is supported by varieties of Samsung apps like Video, Camera, Gallery, Call, Video player, Calendar and Clock. Recently Samsung is working with other third-party app developers to create Flex mode optimized apps.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2: Performance

Galaxy Z Fold 2 includes 865 Plus processor with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. We can expect similar performance to Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

While measuring overall performance on Geekbench 5, it scored 3,193 on the multi-core portion. Note 20 Ultra hit slightly higher with score 3,294 and iPhone 11 Pro was fastest with 3,500.

It has offered smooth performance taking about the overall performance. Talking about 5G it supports both mmWave and sub-6Hz flavours.
